At Pipworth Community Primary School we value Art and Design as an important part of the children’s entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum. Art and Design provides the children with the opportunities to develop and extend skills and an opportunity to express their individual interests, thought and ideas. We believe that Art, craft and design embody some of the highest forms of human creativity and self-expression. We hope to provide children with opportunities to communicate and responding in ways that are beyond the potential of any literal form. Through our curriculum we aspire to engage and inspire children, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own imaginative works of art, craft and design.
The curriculum is designed with creativity in mind, and enables pupils to build on skills acquired as they progress through each year. Pupils are encouraged to explore and investigate, create and evaluate artwork as set out in the National Curriculum whilst studying a wide range of artists, architects and designers from throughout history. Our curriculum is sequenced so that pupils return to different forms of media to build upon knowledge and skills, from prior learning points. Pupils have the opportunity to draw, paint, print, and use 3D sculpture techniques. At school, we have been awarded with Artsmark for our provision.
Our curriculum develops the concepts of colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space. The pupils use a variety of different mediums in which to explore these concepts, adding new experiences and skills as they move through school. The provision is enhanced by the inclusion of art-related trips and visitors.
